Carpet production started in 1891 on the floors of Sultan Abdülmecid’s Dolmabahçe Palace with the idea of producing world’s best carpets. The patterns of the carpets were designed by French artists. A carpet weaving workshop called “Hereke Weaving House of Dolmabahçe Palace” started production by masters brought from Hereke Factory-ı Humayun. Majority of the carpets are used in the decoration of palaces and mansions, and the rest of them were exported abroad. It was recognized as one of the most prestigious carpets in the world by winning awards in many international exhibitions.
